Case overview

Jay Lopez is late getting out of the car after a long summer practice. His aunt Mara expects complaints about sore muscles, but by breakfast he needs the banister and leaves his gear by the door. “It hurts more than yesterday,” he tells her, then goes quiet when she asks what else feels different. Mara has seen hard practices before. This does not look like the usual next morning. At the kitchen table, she opens the practice schedule and starts with the simple facts: what the afternoon was like, when Jay first felt off, and how he is moving now. One hard workout is not the whole story. Mara has to decide whether the pattern belongs in a clearer care conversation, a closer watch, or a faster response. The case begins before either of them knows which detail will change the plan.
